I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!
DECORATIONS
I love looking at people's Halloween decorations. Some houses were really done up fabulously this year. One house is always covered in webbing and spiders, with a leg span of three feet. CREEPY! Next time I will take pictures and post them.
COSTUMES
The costumes get better and better every year, but my favorites are always the home-made ones. Some are very creative. Tonight I saw a mom and dad dressed up. The dad was in a shiny green lizard body suit and the mom was Wonder Woman. Loved it!
SAFETY FIRST!
One thing I noticed is how many people were out tonight in the pitch dark WITHOUT a flashlight, reflectors and/or glow lights. Just because you can see a car does not mean the person driving can see you. Pretty much, they can't see you! We had people jay walking across major streets with their kids. Sigh! People . . . please use flashlights, reflectors and/or glow lights. PLEASE!
PUMPKINS
My daughter carves about 10 pumpkins every year. They turn out beautifully! She is an artist. We usually have to go to great measures to make sure they don't rot before Halloween (petroleum jelly on the cut surfaces and stored in the garage refrigerator until show time. The pumpkins pretty much start rotting from the first incision of the knife, so this year she decided not to do it. Instead, we have four plain huge pumpkins sitting on the front stoop looking fat and happy! I noticed that more and more people in our city use the store bought pre-cut looking pumpkins. Normally I'm a home-grown type of person, but they look good and last a long time.
CANDY
Here's a tip for all you parents out there . . . I've used baking soda or grapefruit juice to help get rid of the children's Halloween sugar blues. You can't sue me for this. It's a mom-to-mom bit of advice, so take it/give it at your own risk.
Sweet dreams!
